Description and methods employed (what, how, where and when)[edit]
What[edit]
E2 Networking includes all the activities related to the networking of LIFE-IESS project, in view of adding European value and widening its scope and sustainability also after the EC funded period.
The connections with other relevant European (included LIFE projects) will also contribute to involve and establish durable links, exchanges good practices, learn from other results and reinforce LIFE IESS concept amid relevant communities. The main objectives of the action are to:
- Establish regular collaboration with existing thematic networks
- Participate to initiative organised by the EC to foster collaboration among projects.
This action belongs to the E - Project management and monitoring of project progress set of actions.
How[edit]
This action will be implemented through different and synergic tasks such as:
- participation and/or contribution to networks or events and information platforms organised by EC;
- contacts and regular information exchange with other projects dealing with the same or similar issues;
- signing into existing networks in the same field of action;
- exchanging of results, information and best practices;
- participation to event organized by other relevant project communities
The partners have already made a detailed screening of interesting and on going LIFE+ projects to contact. Among others the most interest for the IESS proposal are: LIFE08 ENV/E/000109 ALICCIA, LIFE09 ENV/IT/000115 SUN EAGLE, LIFE09 ENV/IT/000200 LAIKA, LIFE09 ENV/SE/000346 GREECIT, LIFE09 ENV/SE/000350 CLICC, LIFE10 ENV/ES/000471 Crops for better soil, LIFE10 ENV/IT/000401 ECO Courts, LIFE10 ENV/FR/000215 R-URBAN. These projects will be a great source of relevant information, exchanges and best practices.
The link with small communities working on climate change resilience is of fundamental relevance. Of course all this in addition to the communities dealing with adaptation, and environmental issues.
The Convenant of Mayors (and its national Italian Covenant Platform network, http://www.networkingcovenantofmayors.eu/Italy.html) will be definitely an important stage for the project but the IESS partnership will seek to establish associations and active cooperation also with other national, European and international networks also through membership to join existent national (Kyoto club, Coordinamento Agende 21 Locali Italiane) European (ECOVAST) or International networks (ICLEI).
Kyoto Club (http://www.kyotoclub.org/) is a national non profit association brings together more than 250 members (from Local Governments, to SMEs, to Environmental Association) in Italy and organise relevant national initiatives on climate change where IESS partner can present project's results.
Coordinamento Agende 21 Locali Italiane (http://www.a21italy.it) associates Italian Regions and Local Governments engaged in sustainable development and will also be a great opportunity to give visibility to IESS project.
ECOVAST (http://www.ecovast.org/), is the European Council for the Village and Small Town, and it is engaged in fostering economic, social and cultural vitality of small rural communities throughout Europe ans promoting a renewal of, the built and natural environments of such communities.
ICLEI (http://www.iclei.org/), is the most important network of Local governments for sustainability and UN's main body for coordinating municipal and urban decision-making. It associate over 1220 local government Members who are committed to sustainable development, from 70 different countries. ICLEI promotes a numbers of international events (eg Toward Resilient Cities Networking Event, Ecomobility System) that will amplify IESS activities and results.
IESS will participate in ECOVAST and ICLEI events.
Methods employed:
- screening of existing initiatives
- screening of information sources
- networks membership
- regular delivery of information (Mail contacts, web based collaboration, RSS feeds)
Where[edit]
Networking activities will take place in the project implementation area, i.e. IT.
Participation to/organisation of networking activity in other European countries is also envisaged. The cost incurred by this activity (including 2 or 3 European trips for xxxx the partner more involved in such activities) is budgeted.

Constraints and assumptions[edit]
- Constraints
- Initiatives to which the LIFE-IESS Partnership contributes must focus on the pertinent themes
- Only original contribution of the project will be delivered
- References, sources, directories etc. will be made available through the project web site
- Networks to which the partnership participates must be focussed on themes next to LIFE-IESS ones
- Assumptions
- Existing relevant initiatives are open for LIFE-IESS participation.
- Networks are willing to include new partners.
Beneficiary responsible for implementation[edit]
The beneficiary responsible for E3-Networking activities is GRANT.
Expected results[edit]
The main results are:
- LIFE IESS contribution are regularly published and well ranked
- permanent collaboration has been established with 3 networks at National and European dimension working on relevant issues.
Indicators of progress[edit]
The main indicators are
- Number of networks linked
- Level of networking (intensity of exchange of information and actions carried in common) and
- Fulfilment.
The measuring will be carried out by GRANT: at reporting time and at activity end.
For the networking the threshold will be at least 3 permanent collaborations/membership established.
For the completion report the threshold is ON/OFF.
The mean of verification is document review.
